The Hood Council has today annouced a very controversial new law which will shake the very foundations of the Hoods working economy. Currently any number of Sims can be any particular career path, choosing when and how they sign up and when and how they leave. In addition following a graduate career unlock's new opportunities for the future allowing those particular sims to apply for a further four types of jobs. However, the controversial new career capping law will mean that there will be a limited number of spaces available in each career and once full no sims can take up a career in that path until a vacancy becomes clear. Whilst to some this may seem like a very good idea others are outraged at the thought that they may not be able to get into a career path that they want, or possibly won't be able to get a job at all.
The following list shows the Council's plans for the numbers per career path:
Artist: Currently 2 - Capping at 2
Athletics: Currently 5 - Capping at 5
Biologist: Currently 2 - Capping at 5
Business: Currently 7 - Capping at 7
Culinary: Currently 7 - Capping at 7
Law Enforcement:Currently 6 - Capping at 10
Medical: Currently 13 - Capping at 10
Military: Currently 5 - Capping at 10
Paranormal: Currently 1 - Capping at 2
Politics: Currently 4 - Capping at 6
Science: Currently 6 - Capping at 6
Show Business: Special Requirement
Slacker: Currently 5 - Capping at 5
As can be seen, using this new system means that many career paths are already full or in the case of a Medical Professional there are too many above the cap limit. When questioned about this the Council said "It would be unfortunate for anyone to be made redundant but it may be the case. It has not yet been decided". When questioned about the Show Business Path we were told "It has long been Simborough tradition to be a haunt for international stars of popular shows. We do not want to stunt their influx into Simborough. However, all sims wishing to pursue a career in Show Business must make an application to the Council."
So what are the Pro's and Con's of this new system I hear you ask, are there even any Pro's at all! Well yes, there are, if your a local OFB merchant. The state of affairs at the moment for hiring is dire, there are very few sims available for work in the shops and the OFB tycoon's are currently in desperate needs of employee's. In addition it creates a much more dynamic economy for the hood and means that society will not become top heavy with wealth or everyone in one career path. For example...what if sims kept moving into the Medical career path, soon we'd have too many doctors and not enough law enforcement. This system keeps a competitive business community. But of course, there are cons. Once all career paths are filled it may mean sims are kept out of work or in a field they don't desire. Money won't be as forth coming say if you're hired as a shop assistant and your resulting aspirations might not be met.
But unfortunately, as usual with our Hood Council it is too late to vote on this system as the decision has been made. Effective from Day 50 our younger generation will now have to hope that their dream job is still available when they get there....otherwise you could be working in a shop for the rest of your life...much to your bosses delight!
Pro's
- Create's a competitive business community
- Gives OFB bosses a larger group of applicants to choose as employee's
- Economy won't become top heavy with too many sims in one field
- Creates a career desire and better sense of aspiration for sims.
- Makes an ideal financial economy for Simborough's stock market.
Con's
- Sims presently in Medical Career may be made redundant
- The younger generation will not be able to simply uptake their dream career.
- Oppresses financial achievements for Sims stuck in OFB employment. Whilst managerial positions are available pay will be down to employer, thus sims may earn much less than they would in a normal career path.
